Taking megadoses of vitamin and mineral supplements, "just to be safe," can sabotage the absorption process by introducing imbalances and crowding out important minerals. This was published in the University of California, Wellness Letter, in April, 1991. The same letter states over-dependence on calcium supplements can inhibit the absorption of zinc, iron, and magnesium. It can also inhibit the absorption of manganese. This has been confirmed by other research publications.
